The 9th edition of the International Conference on New Business Models continued to consolidate its position as a pioneering platform for cutting-edge research and dialogue in the field of sustainable business models. With NBM2024, the conference reaffirmed its role as a space where academics, researchers, and practitioners come together to explore bold solutions to today’s complex global challenges through the lens of innovative and responsible business model design.

Held in a socio-economic context shaped by deep uncertainty and transformation, this year’s edition focused on how sustainable business models can navigate the interlinked digital, green, and social transitions. Key megatrends such as climate change, resource scarcity, demographic shifts, and rapid technological change framed the discussions — calling for business models that are not only innovative, but inclusive, circular, and resilient.

NBM2024 placed particular emphasis on the role of technology-driven innovations — such as artificial intelligence, connectivity, robotics, and big data — and how they reshape not only industries but societies and values. The conference invited reflections on how these technologies can be harnessed responsibly, embedding principles such as human dignity, equality, and security into business model design.

At the same time, the climate emergency underscored the urgency of shifting away from business-as-usual models and accelerating the adoption of eco-innovative, circular, and carbon-neutral solutions. Discussions explored how public and private organisations alike must reimagine their value creation logics to drive a truly green transition.

The conference also highlighted the need for inclusivity and justice in this transformation, calling for business models that address intergenerational challenges, promote diversity, and empower citizens to participate in the co-creation of sustainable futures.

NBM2024 continued to nurture a thriving international academic community committed to integrating knowledge across disciplines and sectors. It offered a unique space to reflect, connect, and collaborate — shaping the foundations for the next generation of research, policy, and practice in sustainable business models.

We extend our deepest thanks to all contributors and participants who made this 9th edition such a vibrant and forward-looking event.
