Business model experimentation for circular economy: close, slow, narrow, regenerate”.
Track 2.3
Through the “Get to know our tracks” series of NBM2023, we are presenting to you track 2.3: “Business model experimentation for circular economy: close, slow, narrow, regenerate”. This track focuses on the cases, practices and tools of experimentation with new circular business model strategies. Track 2.3 is chaired by Ilka Weissbrod, Technical University Dresden (Germany), Sveinung Jørgensen and Lars Pedersen from the NHH Norwegian School of Economics (Norway), and Nancy Bocken, Maastricht University (The Netherlands).
Ilka, Sveinung, Lars, and Nancy co-chaired an experimentation track at the NBM conferences for the last three years and relish witnessing how this research field develops. Nancy established this track and is this year one of the overall conference chairs, hence has passed the track chair baton to Ilka.
We track chairs believe that businesses must experiment in these uncertain times to meet circularity challenges. Approaches that are perceived as ‘low hanging fruit’ – for example higher efficiency through using fewer resources in the production process are researched and operationalized in practice. The longer term and more radical approach such as slowing loops through longer product lifetimes and less consumption, or regeneration as business model strategy: those approaches are much less common. We hope to be able to discuss these stretching approaches in this session with you and look forward to meeting many of you in person.
We already have two-digit number of contribution to this chair but, in 2022, doubled the ‘experimentation’ track at the conference to enable the discussion of stimulating content. With the submission deadline extended to 14 February 2023, we hope further extended abstract will be considered as submission to our track.
